We Are (a crazy) Family

This is too much. First, the jetamerica thing, and now this...
A new startup, Family Airlines!
Besides the horrible name, the interesting part is that the founder of the carrier (Barry Michaels) is looking for volunteers on Craigslist.
In its ad seeking volunteers the company stresses that those interested can work at their own convenience.
Like the now defunct Skybus, Family Airlines plans to pursue revenue streams beyond ticket sales. In-flight food service and entertainment rentals, including video games and movies will be available for purchase via credit card.
The airline is seeking approval to (ha,ha,ha. sorry can't stop laughing!) fly a Boeing 747-400 from Las Vegas to diferent domestic destinations.
One more thing:
Barry Michaels participated in the offering of $5 million in registered stock in the predecessor to the carrier, also dubbed Family Airlines.
Regulators explain the conviction of Michaels on misrepresentation charges made in a private stock offering is enough to keep the company from winning DOT clearance to launch operations.

Oh, Boy. Here We Go Again
The airline , named JetAmerica, will start operations before 2010.
The airline is looking at the Airbus A319/320, Boeing 737-700/800 and Embraer 190.
Well, well, well...We didn't learn the lesson, right?
Go to www.skybus.com and you'll find this:"Skybus struggled to overcome the combination of rising jet fuel costs and a slowing economic environment. These two issues proved to be insurmountable for a new carrier."

Another One Bites The Dust
Zoom Airlines has suspended operations, after failing to secure a re-financing package.
Zoom's divisions in Canada and the UK operated Boeing 767 and 757 aircraft on routes primarily connecting points in Canada and the USA with cities in the UK, France and Italy. The company employs 450 staff in Canada and 260 staff in the UK.
Skybus, ATA, Aloha, Silverjet, Maxjet, Oasis Hong Kong...sad.

Rara Avis

Profit.
What a wonderful and dreamy word. All airlines are after it.
And then, there's Southwest Airlines.
Since 1973, the airline turned a profit every single year.
Yes, 1973/74/75/76/77...you get the picture.
A common fleet, motivated staff, simple fares, point to point routes, quick turn around times, hedging fuel, good planning and (probably) luck, too. They are all factors of this "rara avis" in the airline industry.
You may like Southwest Airlines, or you may not. But, it's undeniably that this carrier is an example to follow (and yet, hard to imitate!).
